Last Weekend I shot a live show at Geno’s for Kane Grogan & The Accepted Eclectics. I had worked with Grogan previously on press shots, and had been able to hear his recordings, but had missed several chances to see him live, so I was excited to finally hear the real deal. The music, an intense hybrid of hip hop, soul, and rock, was produced by a backing band that included two singers, a sax, and keys, (in addition to the requisite drums, bass, and guitar) so the sound was big, diverse, and impossible to not start moving to.
I was able to solve the tricky lighting at Geno’s by using two AlienBee AB800s with their modeling lights on. This made Kane and his band really hot, from what I heard, but it allowed me to get atmospheric photos in a very dark setting. Enjoy!
